Floodgates

she's never home
and often she grieves 'cause she's all alone
and people who leave her
will never be quite the same again
he craves a cure where two can escape
but a mouthful of emptiness dries up the date
he's got all the time, all the time he needs...
still every day he stands the test
running from failure but stopping for breaths
still he can hope to see her again
the shell that comprises the ghost of a friend
she thinks she's changed, but that's not the point
the core will remain and then filters adjoin
this is a life he's trading away
her voice was an echo than ended today
when i go then bury this with you
the floodgate's open with something new
i could paint a perfect picture of a view i never saw
i've got everything i need
new heights and distant memories
that i've been trying to suppress
i'll get them out of my system
when i go then bury this with you
the floodgate's open with something new
i could paint a perfect picture of a view i never saw

Blurry Eyes

sunday night’s a little strange, but I can't think of what i'd change
through my newest canvas, splat my mental trash ‘til it makes sense
soon, you'll be off somewhere far, but I can't visit where you are
i'd hate to disappoint you, but i don’t want your bad vibrations
comatose sweet memories, picture perfect I can see
a little piece of paradise, mellowed out and blurry eyes
wednesday night’s a little cool, you’re the genious i’m the fool
insulated by your suffocating grip, and it’s alright
'cause they’re outside this haunted room and soon they'll bring me back to you
silhouette gets dimmer but i don’t want your bad vibrations, i don’t want your bad vibrations
comatose sweet memories, picture perfect I can see
a little piece of paradise, mellowed out and blurry eyes

he used to teach a class concerning chemistry
now he wears many hats, and blends in credibly
you know he'll get away with everything he does
he's everchanging, not the person that he once was
unfulfilled, but overskilled and with a quiet voice
to die in shame or make a name, and so he made a choice
he's risking his reward for something lyrical
now that he's diagnosed and working on a miracle
no, he doesn't care at all
witnesses are few, a new distorted scene
he looks up to the skies, mocking someone he could be
assumes the character, goes to another place
where he's collecting all the memories he can't erase
he wants to feel but everything he touches ages fast
and he confuses distant futures with the recent past
he's been through many roles, costumes and identities
but each of them removes him further from reality
no, he doesn't care at all

A View I Never Saw
04:05
|

20 years later I feel the same
poloroid sits in its wooden frame
disposable camera and video tapes
connect the dots of a life I'd live again
but can't remember if I knew it then
well I sure hope so
take a glimpse but lose the moment
and now all we have are 2d versions of a view we missed
we couldn't capture how the goosebumps felt
the feeling fades and then it's gone
woke up to the most beautiful sunrise and saw a smile on the face of the earth, looked up at the great green mountain that stood before me, saw the birds, the flowers and even the rain that the high definition lense couldn't find. i scaled the steep cliffs and plateaus and reached the chilly summit and felt like i was looking at a lifesize map of the country. i tried to bottle the feeling and immortalize the moment with an image that would last a lifetime. i took a picture, it was great, but it couldn't capture the view. it was great, but it couldn't capture the view..
a view i never saw before...
take a glimpse but lose the moment
and now all we have are 2d versions of a view we missed
we couldn't capture how the goosebumps felt
the feeling fades and then it's gone

burn me, only 'cause you care
interrupt the melody and tell me with a stare
broken but complete
displaced, every different way
talking with you backwards and drifting into space
i don't have a choice
light yet somber, i'm no longer under your sweet spell
seeing clearly, or dreaming dearly, it's so hard to tell
up, down, taken all around
my senses overload as my body hits the ground
everything goes numb
flashback, moment of the act
trapped away for ages and waiting to come back
surely i'm not done
light yet somber, i'm no longer under your sweet spell
seeing clearly, or dreaming dearly, it's so hard to tell
